Colombia 🇨🇴 Huila EA Decaf

Huila — Colombia

Overview

A genuinely lively decaf from Colombia's Huila region — sweetly balanced with real fruit character and a pleasant acidic lift that's uncommon in decaffeinated coffee. Great option for anyone who wants a full flavor experience without the caffeine.

Origin & Farm Notes

Sourced from several small farms across Colombia's southern Huila region, where nearly 95% of producers work five hectares or less. These lots are wet-processed using small home pulping setups, fermented to remove the mucilage layer, then dried in small drying rooms to protect the coffee from the elements. Decaffeination happens domestically at Descafecol, a state-of-the-art facility in Manizales, Caldas (partly owned by Germany's Coffein Compagnie), using the Ethyl Acetate direct-contact method — often called "sugar cane decaf" since the EA can be naturally derived from fruit and vegetable sources.

Processing & Quality

EA Decaf processing, applied after standard wet-processing at the farm level. This method tends to preserve body well, which is part of why this lot carries roast tones so effectively — a common strength of EA decafs generally, and true to form here.

What to Expect

Clean cane-sugar sweetness up front, with apple and dried peach notes and a touch of milk chocolate. As it brews, expect cinnamon-spiced bread and dried fruit layered over a base of barley malt and honey sweetness, balanced against lower-toned cocoa as it cools. Green apple brings a tangy edge, baked pear and cinnamon add spice, and a bright, pineapple-juice-like acidity rounds things out.
